Antique Gold Rush 1850 Victorian Portrait 14k Bracelet

This coveted cuff from mid 19th century is an outstanding example of French Neoclassical design. Also known as Victorian or Napoleon III era, the bracelet face of 14k yellow gold is topped with an elaborate, engine turned cover with scrolling and garland motif. The "secret" hidden portrait is revealed when the cover is opened along with a compartment en verso to hold a lock of hair. A true relic, bearing the date 1850, engraved inside along with the location of Washington, DC. This hinged bangle bracelet retains its original patina, enclosed with an antique clasp engraved "California Gold" and a 25mm woven jacquard ribbon. The bracelet pictured is as received from a local estate, remaining in good antique condition.
