Baroque Tahitian pearls completed by a pavé diamond platinum clasp. In this highly lustrous strand, the iconic peacock colors shift through silver, deep grey, pistachio and aubergine overtones surfacing as it reflects light. 35 baroque and ovals, each pearl carries its own organic silhouette, with faint circling around some of the bodies. The platinum disco-ball diamond clasp is set with a full carat of sparkle and can be worn forward or back as a focal point. A wonderful gift for her or him, pearl is also June's birthstone gem.

This strand would not have existed more than sixty years ago. The black-lipped oyster was hunted through the 19th century for its shell to make buttons and furniture inlays, not its pearls, and by the early 1900s it was nearly extinct. Naturally occurring dark pearls were very rare and incredibly valuable, and the few that surfaced reached European courts.
Culturing had been unsuccessful until 1961, when a French biologist and veterinary official working for the French Polynesian fisheries department called in a Japanese technician for help. The first real harvest came four years later. Every commercial Tahitian pearl farm on earth traces its methods and existence back to the success of that program.
